Planting blueprint — Draft 1 - Balanced Food Forest

Each circle is drawn at the plant's mature spread. A group of the same plant in a zone is outlined with a polygon labelled × count; the plants can be set anywhere inside that outlined area at the drawn spacing. The plan is calibrated at 9.5 pixels per foot against an assumed 40 ft house width, so treat the layout as a planting diagram rather than a stake map.

A Callery Pear (Asian Pear) Pyrus calleryana 2 22.0 ft Asian pear on the street-facing (south) side, as requested. Two Asian pears of different cultivars (the nursery lists Hosui, Shinseiki and Yoinashi) so the pair cross-pollinates.

C American Cranberrybush Viburnum Viburnum trilobum 1 8.0 ft Second berry shrub for a mixed hedge effect.
C Common Sage (Culinary) Salvia officinalis 3 grouped area (2.5 ft) Culinary sage - deer resistant, use from the kitchen door.

D Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry Amelanchier lamarckii 'Autumn Brilliance' 1 12.0 ft Small ornamental tree at the east end of the zone.
D American Cranberrybush Viburnum Viburnum trilobum 3 8.0 ft Shrubs tucked behind the herbaceous row.
D Butterfly Bush Buddleja davidii 'Nanho' 1 6.0 ft Butterfly bush at the back of the border - extends the bloom season into frost alongside the asters and goldenrod. Low-medium deer resistance, so keep it inside the temporary fence (or a wire cage) until the stems harden, and plant it in the part of the bed the fence covers longest.
D Woodland Sage Salvia nemorosa 5 2.0 ft Front row - deer resistant.
D Purple Coneflower Echinacea purpurea 5 2.0 ft Mid row.
D Bee Balm Monarda didyma 4 2.5 ft Hummingbird flowers, deer resistant enough behind the salvia.

F Peach Prunus persica 2 14.0 ft Peach - 15-25 ft fruit tree for the north-east backyard. Two cultivars (the nursery lists Gala and Indian Free) so the pair cross-pollinates.

F Apple 'Enterprise' Malus domestica 'Enterprise' 1 18.0 ft Apple 'Enterprise' - the pollinizer for the Honeycrisp-type apple. Apples need a second, different variety to set fruit.

F Strawberry 'Earliglow' Fragaria x ananassa 'Earliglow' 6 1.5 ft Edible groundcover under the trees.
